A River Runs Through It

Attractive Grade II listed riverside residence at Marlow goes on sale

A charming Grade II listed 19th century riverside townhouse at Marlow in Buckinghamshire has been put on the market just before the 162nd annual Marlow Regatta.

The Lodge on St Peter Street boasts what selling agents Hamptons refer to as “one of the most significant river frontages” and is opposite the weir and The Compleat Angler. Aside from mooring rights and a 65’ southerly terrace backing onto the River Thames, this 3,475 square foot two storey detached house includes 3 reception rooms, 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.

Agents Hamptons seek £3.75 million ($4.84 million, €4.44 million or درهم17.77 million).

  1. What a dump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine the flooding risk and imagine the water rats you’d encounter (aside from the human rats rowing and guffawing on the river)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is very uninteresting and I wish you’d write about some more modern houses now please!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yawn!!!!!!!!!!! Yawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Knock it down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Send in the wrecking ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I disagree with Rod. It is quaint and though it needs spicing up in the decorating department (very dull), it could be made into something quite special. I assume given the decor has lasted 20 years (since it was last sold according to the brochure) that it has not flooded. Imagine the Pimms parties you could have on that terrace. Great choice.

  3. A lovely example of the very best of riverside living. Just £1,080 psf and if you did not need a garage you could convert it to make an additional room. There is off street parking and I like the layout. Easily redecorated and perfectly liveable.

  4. My former home town where, since the 1980’s ‘boom’, property prices have remained at premium prices. As well as its ancients and historic roots, modern Marlow is the Thames-side town where Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave first put blade-to-water… and we all know the outcome of that! As for this house, I’m no estage agent but I’d hazard a guess that £1,080 psf is probably quite reasonable for a Thames-side property – and considerably cheaper psf than anything in London that can see the River Thames!

  5. There are those among your regular readers who are very, very picky; too close to the water and you might get rats, (though presumably if it’s too dry in the country he espouses you risk dingo attacks), too below ground it’s too dark, too old and it’s, well, too old. What’s left? A nice concrete semi in the burbs… enjoy. I’ll stick with the stuff Matthew finds for us.

  6. Yes, looks magic, my only worry would be flooding, but if it hasn’t flooded in over 20 years, then It’s worth that risk, be interesting to see an insurance policy.
