Chelsea Autolegends withers

There will be no Chelsea Autolegends 2013

Chelsea Autolegends, the creation of Michael Scott, debuted in September 2010 at the Royal Hospital in SW3. Today, though, it was confirmed that the show has ceased trading. This one-day showcase of classic and modern cars proved popular but last year with entry prices having risen from £12 per adult in 2010 to £25 in 2012, attendance both in terms of cars and visitors appeared to be very much down.

In an email sent this morning by Suzi Grant-Fernyhough of the 96 Club, the following statement was released:

“Just to clear up the rumours and questions that are flying around – Chelsea Autolegends is no more!”

“This event was originally Michael Scott’s invention but to make it happen he had to draw upon others to finance and advertise it in a way well beyond his own means and this is where it all went wrong”.

“The objective of Michael’s Chelsea Autolegends was always to bring classic cars, particularly ex Le Mans cars, to Central London and to make some money for the Pensioners at Royal Hospital Chelsea”.

“It is therefore a great relief that Scottie remains close to those who manage the Royal Hospital and it is for this reason he wishes to create another, but much lower key, event to be held on 8th September and this event will be known as the Grand Rendezvous”.

All at The Steeple Times wish Michael Scott and Suzy Grant-Fernyhough the best of British with their new event.

  1. What a shame! I had the great honour and pleasure of helping to promote the 2012 Chelsea Autolegends as Patron and spearheading the British Women Racing Drivers’ Club 50th anniversary celebrations at this fabulous event.
Taking HR Owen’s exotic supercars for a Sunday morning blast from the Bluebird Chelsea, in the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, along the Embankment to the paparazzi welcome at the gates of The Royal Hospital Chelsea, was a taster we can’t wait to repeat…. hopefully at Scottie’s “Grand Rendezvous” on Sunday 8th September. The Speed Queens will be back and give their support to the marvellous Chelsea Pensioners and Scottie’s “Grand Rendezvous”.
I think some speed-dating sessions are required, for our race and rally queens to get reacquainted with HR Owen’s awesome exoctica again: Bugatti Veyron, Lambo Aventadors, Ferraris, Maseratis, to the sumptious luxury of Rollers and Bentleys, time to get preened and primed. See our report and photographs from last year’s Chelsea Autolegends, see interviews on Motors TV at http://www.bwrdc.co.uk and BWRDC Facebook page.

  2. They should speak to Afzal Kahn of A.Kahn Design. One of the richest men in Britain, he was a regular with his Bugatti Veyron and F1 number plate.
