Taking in a Panorama

A £6.9 million home in “Britain’s Monte Carlo”

Whilst London has “Billionaires Row” in the form of Kensington Palace Gardens, the coastal county of Dorset has an equivalent in the form of the Sandbanks Peninsula – known locally as “Millionaires Row”. Property prices here are said to be the fourth highest on the planet – after London, Manhattan and Tokyo – and an example currently on the market is 124 Panorama Road, a new-build 5-bedroomed home priced at £6.9 million ($11.7 million).

Close to the homes of football’s Tony Pulis, Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp, the immediate neighbour of this four-storey 7,696 square foot ultra-modern mansion is QPR manager Harry Redknapp.

Constructed in the style of the Transatlantic ocean liners of the 1920s and 1930s, 124 Panorama Road has been built on the site of a much smaller bungalow that was sold to developers Amiri Construction for £2.2 million ($3.7 million) in 2002 and demolished in 2008.

One of just 40 properties on the peninsula with direct frontage to the water, 124 Panorama Road enjoys spectacular sea views and boasts such features as a lift, a swimming pool and sauna and a media room. Maximising a narrow site, it is “unashamedly modernist in design” and has “a strong curved form which is truncated by transparent/translucent squares and rectangles of glazing with curves and banding to create crisp shadow lines”.

Construction began in 2011 and at the time, the property was quoted as being an “£8 million mansion” ($13.6 million). The building of the new house has taken an extraordinarily long time and though it is now for sale for £1.1 million ($1,900,000) less than originally expected, it still is amongst the most expensive properties currently available on “Britain’s Monte Carlo”.

124 Panorama Road is for sale through Sotheby’s International Realty’s Canford Cliffs office.
