Picture of the Week: ‘Shep: The Dog Who Hated Britain’

Section:

Amusing spoof cover mocking the ‘Daily Mail’ and their stance on Ralph Miliband

The Daily Mail has rightly come under fire this week for their unnecessarily branding the late Ralph Miliband as “hating Britain”.

Our Picture of the Week is a mocked up cover of the paper that states “Kindness Gives You Cancer” and suggests Shep – the Blue Peter dog – “Hated Britain” also. “He never once sang God Save The Queen” about sums it up. Paul Dacre and Lord Rothermere should take note. It’s time to end this saga and it could be easily done: Apologise.

    1. This is stupid…
My great uncle was, like quite a few rich Catholics in the ’30’s, a firm supporter of Franco to the extent he raised substantial sums of money for him. At the time the Catholic Church supported Franco as a protection against the Soviets. If people knew of my familial connection to the odious Franco the they would be entitled to ask whether I harboured views sympathetic to this fascist. The answer is I don’t: but it’s an entirely legitimate question.
In the case of the Milibands the father was a Marxist, as was the grandfather, Samuel, so there is every reason to question the influence of Ralph and Samuel Miliband on Ed and his brother.
Lesser mortals should forgive the Daily Mail its lesser trespasses and remember that our politicians would love the idea of a trammelled press.
A case in point…Francis Maude, a pretty feckless Cabinet Minister was happy to join in the attack on the Mail. Why? Well in 2009 the Mail suggested he resign over his expenses claim of £35,000: one which he was forced to pay back. I can quite see why the political classes and the Establishment would love to suppress our amazing free press. DON’T LET THEM…you will suffer the consequences if you do.
Ralph Miliband, through his academic work gave solace to Marxist dictatorships and on that basis alone the Mail was entitled to question his generational influence on his children.
He came to this country as a refugee…and fought in the RN. So did thousands of Dutch, French, Czech, Polish refugees, but it would be naive to think they fought for Britain: they didn’t: they fought against Nazism.
It is easy to sneer at the Mail, but never forget that the two authors of this article were, like the Milibands, Jewish. To accuse them of anti-semitism is rubbish.

    2. Peter Wayde seldom gets it wrong, and on this occasion he is spot on. Red Ed Miliband is a mere frog aspiring to be a crocodile. He is destined to become another Michael Foot. The Late Ralph Miliband’s influence on Red ED is irrelevant. The author of the Daily Mail article is Jewish, so playing the old race card will not wash.

    3. “If people knew of my familial connection to the odious Franco the they would be entitled to ask whether I harboured views sympathetic to this fascist.”

That’s not what happened though, is it? The mail didn’t ask a question, they made a statement – a comment piece that trashed the reputation of a dead man.

“it would be naive to think they fought for Britain: they didn’t: they fought against Nazism.”

Easy obviously for you to impugn a dead man’s motives, but the bottom line is that he fought with the British armed forces, full stop. Not only did Dacre’s father manager to avoid serving his country, Rothermere actively lauded and supported Hitler and the other fascist filth that we stood diametrically opposed to in WW2. Ralph Milliband is obviously dead now and his son’s politics have self-evidently little to do with their father’s… but Rothermere’s legacy lives on loud and proud on the front page of the family’s filthy rag. Well done, the Mail, that wasn’t thought through very well.

“Ralph Miliband, through his academic work gave solace to Marxist dictatorships”

      Hysterical nonsense.

“It is easy to sneer at the Mail, but never forget that the two authors of this article were, like the Milibands, Jewish. To accuse them of anti-semitism is rubbish.”

It’s not really a tough one to answer why a “Levy” supposedly wrote the article, eh?
