SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

Miriam Margolyes OBE

In April 2017, esteemed actress Miriam Margolyes described Theresa May as “that awful woman” and hinted that she had little-to-any enthusiasm for Jeremy Corbyn’s “hell of a mess” also. In the same interview, in her “distinctive voice”, she added: “It is the job of the arts to engage in life… That’s what I care about”. She is best known for having won a BAFTA for her role in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence in 1993 but is famous to younger audiences for having appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows. A dual British-Australian citizen and humanitarian advocate, Oxford born Margolyes also played the self-made cosmetics billionairess Helena Rubinstein in 2017 and lives with her partner, Heather Sutherland, in London, Tuscany and New South Wales.

  1. I love watching her. She is a great actress but I am with those that take the view that such people should not meddle in politics. She is just as bad as Michael Caine in that regard.

  2. She is right about British politics today. What a shocking choice we face in June: May, Corbyn, Farron or Nuttall. I would tick the box “a.n.other” if there were one.

  3. She should be stripped of her Aussie citizenship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We do not need people like her in our country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Teresa May is MAKING GREAT BRITAIN GREAT AGAIN and she should be supporting her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is this actress when her sister Teresa needs her???????????? Carping on the sidelines and saying rude things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Miriam is a lovely lady and so talented. She is quick witted and has an amazing voice. Great choice Steeple Times.

  5. She deserves to be made a Dame at the very least. I don’t agree with her politics entirely but she is right about Theresa and Labour being useless right now. I would not support Labour ever and am voting for the Liberal Democrat Party on 8th June I must admit. I made a mistake about Brexit but I am a pensioner and I thought very stupidly we could trust Boris Johnson and his colleagues and instead I fell into a trap of lies and deception. I am very very sorry.

  6. Miriam said what we all feel in the interview with Channel 4. We need better people in British public life.

  7. I have always enjoyed seeing her in theatres in spite of my political views being very, very different to hers.

  8. Entertaining performer……
Could not care less about her, Streep’s, Caine’s etc. etc. political opinions…………!!!
