The 70mph shed

Garden shed capable of speeds of in excess of 70mph takes to the roads

With the help of a letter from David Cameron to the DVLA, a two-tonne garden shed on wheels has taken to the road.

Owned and built by Kevin Nicks, a 51-year old mechanic and gardener from Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, the “bonkers” vehicle sits on the chassis of a Volkswagen Passat and has reached a speed of 70.8mph on a private airfield near York.

Of the bizarre vehicle, Mr Nicks told The Telegraph:

“I’m so proud to be the builder of it. When you pull up to the traffic lights it makes people smile because it just looks so wrong”.

He now plans to build other “equally weird vehicles”.

  1. There used to be a guy in Fulham who drove around in a yellow skip,he also had a drivable bedstead too !☺

  2. Makes the home built “Woodmobile” T model Ford replica pick up truck I proudly put on the road when I was 20 seem quite sane.

  3. By the way, speaking of letters from our glorious leaders, I received a very comprehensive 2 page letter from Patrick McLoughlin the Secretary of State for Transport, concerning the “Roads and Driving” chapter in my book Union Jack. He said that had been inspired by some the ideas and one of them was now being adopted, namely fines for unfinished road works left coned off for months on end with nobody working on them.Unfortunately he cheerfully remarked, they were not going to be based on £10 per-cone-per-day as imposed by my dictator Jack Nelson!
