Proudly Proudlock

Restaurateur and Chelsea beacon Michael Proudlock dies

Michael Proudlock left this earth in a fashion befitting of a bon viveur. After a “lavish lunch” at PJ’s on Tuesday 4th December, this renowned restaurateur returned to his home and sadly passed away.

Old Etonian Proudlock – a fixture at first La Brasserie and then The Ivy Chelsea Garden after the acclaimed establishment he co-owned with Rex Leyland was sold to Gordon Ramsay in 2007 – was gregarious to his core and connected beyond belief. With everyone from Prince William to Playboy executive Victor Lownes III as customers of Foxtrot Oscar, his was a restaurant peppered with glamour, but one also that served simple, yet perfectly delicious scoff.

With his passing, yet another Chelsea beacon has been put out. Michael Proudlock will be greatly missed by many.

  3. Another great Chelsea character passes away ….fond memeries of great raconter along with Dai Lewellyn. Brought colour and charm to Chelsea life.

    • I met Michael many moons ago he was a gentleman however his restaurant was a place where lady’s of the night would meet well to do men.
Dai Lewllyn was a firm party goer in the 80s.
I recall he had a flat upstairs where he would entertain women of the night.
I suppose he’s having fun up there
      Rest in peace Michael.

  4. Michael,
We used to have a lot of fun in ‘the old days’ at Sloane Court East with Johnny and Kim.
    RIP old fella.
    All the best, Colin

  5. It was Rex Layland in 2018, who spotted me on TV and said I remember him from 40 years ago. He owned Brays Wine Bar in the Fulham Road. Having tracked me down Rex arranged a lunch at Brinkleys with a special guest Michael Proudlock. It was if the last 40 years never happened, we just picked up where we left off all those years ago. A lovely man who really did know all the stars, movers and shakers of Chelsea Village. Taken far too soon, still foxtrot oscar now has real meaning, hopefully a full wine cellar is part of the deal. Proud to call you a dear friend, just sad that we lost those 40 years. Rest well, your work here is done. And for good measure the mould has been broken. Cheers Proudlock!
