In setting out her vision for Britain, Theresa May simply tried – and then failed – to ape David Cameron
Yesterday, in Birmingham, Theresa May attempted to rouse the Conservative Party with a speech that set out her vision of what she called “a country that works for everyone”.
In her platitude plastered effort, Mrs May “let loose her inner tigress” according to Quentin Letts of The Daily Mail and “did some mad double waving”. The Rolling Stones played in the background and, as she announced in an email to her followers later, she attempted to copy David Cameron’s “better together” by announcing – in a bold font – “let’s rise to this moment together”.
#DarthVader Mrs May certainly made an attempt to make her mark yesterday, but it is time to remember several things about her: Here is a woman who presided over the mess that is the immigration crisis that led to Brexit and here is a woman who has repeatedly failed to do anything about historic VIP abuse.
In also announcing that her party wishes to make companies list the names of foreign workers in a style akin to that of Hitler’s Nazi Germany, Mrs May went too far. Her bossy school teacher like approach is not what this country needs and quite frankly I’d rather her and her hectoring ways be gone.
