Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster closes for business

 

I’ve previously bemoaned the effect of London selling out to foreigners who never move into the properties they buy. The “money park” effect has led to a “no lights on, nobody’s home” situation in the streets of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster and now local businesses are paying the price.

 

The following pictures provide just a few indicators of how many empty shops there are currently in the Royal Borough and Westminster as a result of their being fewer customers and equally, greedier and greedier landlords demanding higher and higher rents.

 

Cadogan, Grosvenor and South Kensington Estates should be ashamed of themselves.

H. R. Stokes was situated in Elizabeth Street for 150 years but was recently forced out by Grosvenor
Chelsea restaurant Elistano became empty over a year ago when its owner threw in his keys

Allens opened in Mayfair in 1830 but was forced to close in 2015 after rents in the local area been increased by an influx of designer fashion shops
