Was it really that wrong that the BBC were tipped off about the search on Sir Cliff Richard’s home in advance?
In the last 24-hours, there has been an outcry of anger from left-wingers such as Geoffrey Robertson QC about how the BBC managed to be present at Thursday’s search of Sir Cliff Richard’s Berkshire home in connection with allegations of historic abuse.
Given the connections between this broadcaster and Sir Jimmy Savile, one might have expected more caution but equally, one could argue, it is a good thing that the allegations against the Christian pop star are finally in the public domain.
Cliff Richard may be entirely innocent of what a man from Sheffield accuses him of doing to him in 1985 but what has circulated on the Internet for several years should now finally be investigated. This Bajan resident ought to return to Britain promptly and answer the questions he now faces.
