With their libel claim appeal failed ‘missing’ Madeleine McCann’s parents need to scale back and stop blaming others
£12 million of public money has been allocated to the search for Gerry and Kate McCann’s missing daughter, Madeleine. This astonishing sum came into play thanks to amongst others their friend and our now Prime Minister, Theresa May, whilst scandalously other children that have disappeared get next to nothing by comparison.
On Tuesday, the McCanns were told they could not sue a former Portuguese detective. Gonçalo Amaral had investigated the ‘disappearance’ and then published a book about the case in which he suggested theories including that Gerry and Kate McCann had faked their daughter’s abduction. Judges decided that the “right to freedom of expression” was worthy of greater protection under Portuguese law than the “right to honour” of the McCanns and thus now, the duo face a massive legal bill.
Mr and Mrs McCann, a couple whose supporters have included the unpopular tycoon Sir Philip Green, should learn a lesson from this. In spite of their continued claims of innocence and determined efforts to continue their search, they must stop blaming the Portuguese police and others for their plight. It is time to scale back the investigation into the disappearance of this child and it is time for Gerry and McCann to accept that they are at the very least to blame for having left their daughter alone on 3rd May 2007.
Wouldn’t trust Gerry to take care of a hoover let alone kiddies!
Here you go again! Shame on you for not supporting the family of dearly beloved missing Madeleine McCann. Poor Gerry and Kate deserve your support and should not be condemned by anyone and most especially you Matthew Steeples. It is wrong and unfair and you should use your resources and audience to help this amazing couple find their beloved child. Support Find Madeleine and stop writing about rich people who have no need for publicity. FIND MADELEINE, FIND HER NOW.
Ah, you’ve just reminded me to take my dvd rental back, One flew over the cuckoo’s nest, thank’s Gillian.
Yes Gillian,
Had the McCanns joined the staff at the Ocean Club, who volunteered to go out in the darkness to search for Madeleine, she might have been found. Hearing her mother’s or father’s voice could have encouraged Madeleine to reveal where she was kept, in case she would be alive. Unfortunately, as you certainly know, they stayed in their apartment for the rest of that night. Doing what?
£12 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoever gave that should have gone to Specsavers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Obvious what happened here!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check the cupboards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Matthew, I love you but this is the one thing we will always fall out over. My parents would leave me asleep and go to the very end of their garden to watch the sun go down. The McCanns were no further away than that. I’ve worked with Gerry at The Brompton and he was a kind and decent man.
JP
It sounds to me like your still at the bottom of the garden with the fairies.
How the hell does that compare with leaving a child unattended in their bed while you go out wining an dining, sorry, no comparison at all. What if the child had woken up after a bad dream, and couldn’t find their parents. I’m sorry, but what they did was irresponsible and they should have put the child before themselves.
Extremely awful case for sure, as a parent I cannot imagine what they are going through. My friend (Senior Editor) in the press said at the time within a day she would be dead, sexually assaulted then murdered. Sickening but probably true I am afraid. Poor people. Praying they will be at peace sooner than later.
Richard, It’s faintly ridiculous using a courtesy title as you do. It’s like me referring to myself as Peter Wayde Esq.
It’s just not comme il faut
12 million quid of tax payers’ money annoys me. Paying for 80 of your hawks to fly first class (your other story) just makes me roll my eyes bemusedly; the things you can spend your OWN money on is mind-blowing.
Sorry – I’m missing the point of JP’s comment. Going into the garden when your child is asleep in the bedroom surely doesn’t count as leaving your child unattended. Leaving your child for HOURS while you’re at a restaurant and getting your friends, rather than your good selves, to check on her is something else again.
The £millions spent on searching for Madeleine is in my mind being used to really cover-up what did happen to her and not looking to find her! Enter. Theresa May! Nonce lover, to keep an eye on the investigation to make sure it doesn’t take off and goes right to the top of the. Pyramid of society.
I agree with Ms Trott. You should be supporting the McCanns in the hunt for their daughter.
The blood and cadaver dogs found the smell of corpse in the cupboard at 5a, on Kate McCanns clothes on Cuddle Cat and also body fluids from a dead body that had beeen shoved into the boot of their hired car. Blood was splattered on walls and curtains behind the settee at 5a and soaked between the tiles. Dogs don’t lie and the MCanns won’t explain how it is possible.
It’s difficult for normal people to comprehend
These people are alien to the experience of ordinary folk
I’m surely not the only one who no longer gives a flying copulation about this tawdry saga…………..?
