Mosley’s mouthpiece

Section:

As it is revealed that the new ‘independent’ organisation to regulate the press is largely dependent on donations from Max Mosley, Matthew Steeples suggests it is just about as useful as the hapless predecessor run by Sir Christopher Meyer that it replaces

“Red socked fop” Sir Christopher Meyer as chairman of the Press Complaints Commission was rightly described by Lord Prescott as “hopelessly ineffectual” but now, it seems, that joke of an organisation’s replacement is headed the same way.

Mosley's mouthpiece - If Impress accept a situation where they are largely dependent on donations from Max Mosley, independent regulation of the press will be nothing but a joke

Mosley’s mouthpiece – The News of the World front page that so angered Max Mosley

In a report in today’s Mail Online, it is revealed that Impress – the supposedly “independent, state-backed” regulator of the press created in the wake of the phone hacking scandal – will rely on £3.8 million of donations over four years from a fervently anti-press campaigner, Max Mosley.

Impress describes itself as “the first truly independent press regulator in the UK” but dependency on a man whose agenda is the destruction of those members of the media who exposed his antics at a sadomasochistic orgy in 2008 is wrong. Effectively if this state of affairs is accepted, Mosley – who also settled a long running dispute with Google over their continuing to show images of the occasion on their search engine in May 2015 – will be the master of the media and Impress will be nothing but his mouthpiece.

That, put simply, should not be allowed.

    1. Well said. This is another waste of time. A free press is an essential part of a democracy and having the son of the Nazi sympathiser Sir Oswald Mosley controlling it with his cash is a DISGRACE.

      • Oswald Mosley was the greatest Englishman of the 20th century, and he was politically right about what was to happen.

The first Englishmen killed in WW2 were blackshirts fighting Germans, and the first boat to reach Dunkirk to collect stranded British troops were Blackshirts

    2. He should rod off!!!!!!!!! Mind you, I hear he likes a bit of a beating so perhaps he should birch off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. A funny thing happened again on the way to the forum…………No, it is not about Pompeii, jammed chastity belts or even barber’s rash of shaven pubic regions resulting from poor unhygenic practice. Mosley is a silly Leslie Phillips type character [EDITED FOR LEGAL REASONS], it is obvious why he hates the press. He is a laugh, but unfortunately the establishment take him seriously and consider him a friend.

    4. Unlike many of his dreary, talentless critics. Max Moseley is a very accomplished man. His technical and legal skills were crucial in the development of Formula One motor racing.

His sexual proclivities are a private matter for him and his family alone. They harm no one. They are no way comparable to the instances of paedophilia STEEPLE TIMES seems to dwell on at length

I have been friends with him and his elder brother Nicholas for over fifty years and found him charming, funny and kind. (For many years he had his Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile office in a little house in Walton Street. Like the man himself. It was modest and discreet).

    5. Glenmore, when he attempts to destroy Press freedom with the support of the establishment, I will fight him, his agenda is very self centred and superficial.

      • If his antics hadn’t been exposed, he would not have donated a penny. You are so right. He is motivated by personal reasons and that should not give him the right to try and take over regulation of the press. Impress are nothing but unimpressive.

    6. Martin Ellis Jones there is no need to patronise Max, he is a very accomplished man and a very, very rich man too. So don’t take the piss. He apparently gave Rupert the Bear and Google a good hiding in court, and it was pukka, the Judge was not an establishment figure. Bring back Sir Sidney Roughdiamond who later married the spinster Lady Fanny Allcock in between her many affairs with other men, Sir Roughdiamond attempted to pass a bill to fight filth (permissive behaviour) in Westminster Parliament, it was sadly opposed by the hippies, skinheads, Lady Allcock and finally blocked by the House of Lords, the bill was never passed or heard of again. So Carry on Britain………….

    7. Very disturbing to see support for this wealthy, litigious extremist. Never forget that his parents were interned by our government during WW2, and that they were married in Josef Goebbels’ house with Adolf Hitler as the best man…

This is a serious subject concerning the UK media. You live in some low class Melbourne and know nothing of anything other than beer drinking, judging from your huge bellly. Now bugger off.

    9. Whilst one can sympathise with Mosley the fact remains that a free press makes this country what it is.
No other country has our skilled investigative journalists, who frequently put themselves in grave danger to expose wrongdoing. Yes, the press will overstep the mark, but that is no reason to coral them. You can’t make omelette’s without etc.
Think of the poor baby, Poppy, murdered by her evil father. The police and social services would have either got away with it, or hushed it up had not Associated Newspapers( and other papers) used their power to challenge them and name names. Well done, Jonathan Harmsworth!
Look at Hugh Grant. A mediocre actor who with his Liz Hurley have exploited the press to enhance their flagging careers. Then, suddenly, they find their dirty little secrets exposed and squeal like stuck pigs.
If they want a censored press go and live in France.
