Facing a roasting that can only lead to further humiliation, Prince Andrew really should just get it over and go and face the FBI suggests Matthew Steeples
To be a fly on the wall in the breakfast room of the “happiest divorced couple in the world,” Prince Andrew and his live-in ‘lodger’ ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, this morning would be spellbindingly sickening.
With wall-to-wall bad news for the dastardly duo in the form of a civil lawsuit against the Pizza Express loving, non-sweating Duke of York from Virginia Giuffre (née Roberts) filed yesterday in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, lacking in diplomatic immunity ‘Randy Andy’s’ worst fears have finally been brought to the fore.
For the renegade non-active royal, there are now two options, but each will clearly result only in further humiliation and nothing but a right royal roasting. First, he could ignore the claim and thus face judgment in absentia. In doing so, he would be unable to offer evidence to attempt to try to prove the sordid allegations against him to be false. This could also potentially cause a diplomatic between Britain and the USA, something that would result in embarrassment for his mother and wider family.
Second, the Duke of York could go and face the suit and risk being hauled in to answer the FBI’s questions also. In doing so, he’d take the chance of potentially being prosecuted “if there is suspicion of criminal behaviour,” according to the Daily Mail. “He could ‘take the 5th’ and invoke his right against self-incrimination, and refuse to answer questions,” the paper’s Harriet Alexander and Daniel Bates this morning continued, though this would only raise suspicions about his conduct during his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Elsewhere, in a statement to ABC News, Giuffre announced:
“I am holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me.”
“The powerful and the rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions. I hope that other victims will see that it is possible not to live in silence and fear, but one can reclaim her life by speaking out and demanding justice.”
“I did not come to this decision lightly. As a mother and a wife, my family comes first. I know that this action will subject me to further attacks by Prince Andrew and his surrogates.”
“But I knew that if I did not pursue this action, I would be letting them and victims everywhere down.”
This morning, I join those saluting the courage of Virginia Giuffre to make a public stand in spite of the powerful forces that stand against her. That she has filed a lawsuit finally brings a chance for her allegations to be proven to be true or lies and if he had an ounce of sense, Prince Andrew would finally do the decent thing: Go to America and face the bloody music.
