2017 brings a return to the “dark days of the 1930s”; be worried, be very worried
At Christmas, Prince Charles suggested we were in a worrying era akin to the 1930s and in recent days his predictions have been shown to be true.
Last week, Donald Trump’s behaviour at his press conference illustrated a man who is nothing but unhinged and mentally ill. He had tinges of Hitler and Goebels in his manner and equally, when Max Mosley appeared on the Sunday Politics yesterday, here was another man who set out his beliefs that the free press is nothing but a nuisance and subsequently argued it must be destroyed.
Jeremy Corbyn represents the Communist era and in demanding wages be limited last week, he illustrated himself up to be a modern day Stalin. He was even endorsed by the Holocaust denier David Irving as “a very fine man” and that about sums up where we are. Welcome to the age of unreason and welcome to a return to the darkest of days.
Sorry Mathuew.. You for a change are Wrong Ref Trump.Europe is on the Brink of Total self distruction .English people could see it coming and Jumped out of a Sinking Europe. When the Media starts believing in Britain as Trump does there will be great changes. The World loves a Tryer and nobody tries more than good old Englang as Trump can see.
Britain didn’t leave the EU they were told to leave or get kicked out. That was in 2012.
You need locking up Mr Steeple!!!!!!!!!! You dare to insult Donald Trump and David Irving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are both HEROES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Max Mosley is also GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rod – the world does not need ‘sub-humans’ like you. You really do not merit any other response.
Remove this Rod idiot from your website. He is always making childish comments.
We allow him to hang himself with his own nonsense.
No, Matthew. You are wrong. In this comment he has praised David Irving, the man who claims the Holacaust never happened. You should ban him. He is, by inference, committing a crime
Ha ha! Oh, the irony! A troll wants another troll to be banned.
I presume your apparent madness is similar to that of Trump and that you have never been anywhere near a Nazi concentration camp or spoken to a fine lady like Kitty Hart-Moxon. Lanzmans film “Shoah” is a monumental account of the truth. Your support of Irving the Holocaust denier is a disgrace to yourself, and I wonder if you blindly support genocide and mass murder and holocaust denial. Irving is a criminal. The popularity of Trump, and the trust in him from the people of USA, should be at an all time high just before his installation. By all accounts the polls state he is now at a dismal 37% support. He is sick and they people are beginning to wake up to it.
We may smile at your “wrecking ball” posts but seemingly you have ventured into the realms of the absurd. I commend Matthew for his tolerance.
Forget about Trump. He is a good friend to Israel, as I am, Focus! The problem is Rod
There is a wave of nationalism that has been spreading across the world in recent years, and the last time this happened was in the 30’s. Populism is on the rise as democracy fails. Our elected politicians are an out-of-touch elite. When governments act in such a disconnected manner – then the rise of the demagogue will occur. Such rabble rousers exploit prejudices, advocate extreme action and usually become dictators. Be very aware !!..
Oh, for goodness sake!
The reason for the rise in populism is simply the fact that people are tired of being led by a greedy and amoral political class. It’s very simple. Don’t over complicate things
Rod – You really are a very ill educated and rude man. If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. That’s something you need to learn.
Trump’s astoundingly foolish comments about Nato being “obsolete” and what a good thing it will be for the EU to collapse, do give one grounds for grave concern.
Of course, it’s obsolete. It was designed for a different era when Europe had no money.
Europe needs to pay its way and so does Japan. Trump is clearheaded
I don’t understand why you are all getting so upset with Rod the robot. He is obviously just making these stupid comments to just wind you all up. However, I have noticed over the past few months his comments are starting to get a bit personal towards Matthew, why I’m not sure. Anyway, like Matthew said, just let him hang himself with his stupid remarks.
Trump is an attention-seeking loon, but if I’m perfectly honest, I don’t care too much what the US president does in terms of American domestic policy. What they do in their own country is up to them and won’t affect me too much.
US foreign policy is another matter, however. I am not overly optimistic about what Trump will do there. I fully expect him to launch another war in the Middle East – probably against Iran as he was firmly against the deal which President Obama struck.
But then I ask myself, would Hillary Clinton have been any better? That woman has a horrendously hawkish track record where war is concerned. Not only did she vote for the Iraq War, but she was instrumental in the mess that ensued in Libya.
Let’s also not forget that Netanyahu has been advocating war with Iran for ages – and as we have seen, time and time again, America has nearly always felt duty-bound to do whatever Israel wants. Obama (who was far more moderate than Trump) finally showed something of a backbone by abstaining in the UN resolution. However, for the rest of his presidency, he was completely ineffectual at exercising any kind of influence over Israel’s activities. Indeed, under him, America continued to send $3 billion in aid to Israel every year.
I suppose the one bright spot on the horizon is that Trump does seem more open to cordial relations with Russia. Hillary made it very clear that she saw Putin as an enemy and at the very least, would have started another cold war.
Not that I think that Trump is above doing such a thing. And I don’t discount the possibility of WW3 eventually breaking out under his presidency either. But at least there is more of a chance of the US and Russia getting along than there would have been under Hillary.
And when the next US-led war breaks out, I just hope that Britain will have the sense to stay away.
You are a very confused menopausal lady
Ah, he’s back again. It’s a sign of severe sexual inadequacy when a man launches unprovoked personal attacks against women.
Don’t let it get the better of you.
