Classic clangers from the last week
All that glitters
A bow-tie wearing gent on the 14 bus sat with his niece remarked: “The Ritz: It’s no good” as they passed the landmark. “Why?”, came the response. “Too much gold. I much prefer The Savoy. Less Arab naff”. He plainly didn’t know that The Ritz is owned by the British Barclay brothers whilst The Savoy belongs to Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud.
Hooking Harvey Nichols
Two bankers sat at the bar at Cecconi’s were overheard discussing their favourite nightspots. One asked: “Do you like Harvey Nichol’s Fifth Floor Bar?” The other, without raising an eyebrow, answered: “Yes. It’s great. It’s full of hookers”. Classy.
Age and temptation
Two ladies that lunch lamented their failures in finding love over cocktails at Daphne’s. One casually commented: “Don’t worry about temptation: As you grow older, it starts avoiding you”. She plainly isn’t the sort to take her inspiration from the late Duchess of Alba.
