We’d rather not ‘Meet The Russians’
Whilst Made in Chelsea is harmless nonsense and The Only Way Is Essex car crash viewing, the plethora of similar shows that have followed are surely just indicative of the new lows British television has arrived at.
Here at The Steeple Times, we recently reported on the actor Steven Berkoff’s comments about the “garbage” shown by the BBC and we are certain that if the actor who famously played General Orlov in Octopussy were to see Fox’s Meet The Russians, his heart would sink further.
They call it a “Russian fairytale with a difference” but Chekhov and Tolstoy this ain’t. In fact, Pasternak and Sholokhov would turn in their graves. Instead, this tacky show features naff Russian transplants to London partying and flashing their cash. There’s no culture here, just vulgarity.
The one saving grace? Meet The Russians is restricted to a little viewed Murdoch owned channel. We most definitely will not be watching.
