Britain’s tackiest car, a crystal covered Mercedes, sells for just under £155,000
A previous Wally of the Week, Daria Radionova, might not be such a fool after all given that she has just sold her Swarovski crystal covered Mercedes CLS 350 for the astonishing figure of £154,600.
The ridiculous car, which the 21-year old “unveiled” in September was placed on eBay for a starting price of £89,999 and received a total of 28 bids. It even attracted comment from the actor Ashton Kutcher on Twitter who told his 16.4 million followers that he “secretly wanted one”.
The web advert described the sale as being a “charity auction” in aid of the dogs’ homes in Manchester and Moldova but only 10% of the funds raised will actually go to the charity. Despite the 2011 car having been valued at just £25,000 prior to the modifications made to it, Radionova claimed she spent £50,000 buying it, £20,000 on the crystals and £15,000 on “flying in a team from Russia” to carry out the works.
Assuming £15,460 is donated to the charity and adding eBay commission of around £15,000 to the £85,000 this Knightsbridge resident claims to have spent on the vehicle, she has made a very tidy profit of £39,140. Perhaps Miss Radionova ought to be hired as a replacement for the hapless presenters of Discovery’s Wheeler Dealers.
