A Dragon’s Lair

Hilary Devey slices £250,000 off asking price of her country residence

Bolton born businesswoman and former Dragons’ Den star Hilary Devey CBE has slashed the price of her Staffordshire home from £2.2 million to just £1.95 million through agents Fisher German.

Devey, who has 65,000 followers on Twitter, bought The Edward VII Wing, which forms part of Rangemore Hall, in 2006 and is said to have outbid Robbie Williams it.

Built in 1902 on the instructions of Lord Burton, the 12,823 square foot wing was designed to accommodate King Edward VII during his brief stay at the house in 1907. It now features 3 “grand” reception rooms, 7 bedrooms and a self-contained flat.

In addition, there is a leisure room with a swimming pool designed for aquatic exercise, a 4-car garage and 9.5 acres of gardens and woodland.

Of why she’s selling up, twice divorced Devey – whom also owns properties in London, Morocco, Spain and Boca Raton, Florida – commented:

“[It’s because of] the need for a change. I had a nomadic childhood thanks to my father’s job managing pubs and hotels across the north of England and, perhaps as a consequence, I still get itchy feet whenever I am in one place for too long a period of time… My business remains in the Midlands, and I am likely to get a smaller base nearby, so I am not leaving the Midlands”.

Whomever purchases The Edward VII Wing will need to be as Bold As Brass. We somehow doubt Devey will be happy about negotiating the price down any further.
