A ludicrous Land Rover

Land Rover Series I diesel for sale for the ludicrous sum of £200,000

Land Rover produced their first Series I diesel in 1957 and now the first example off the production line – Chassis 116700001 – has been offered for sale for £200,000 despite being in need of complete renovation.

The Land Rover on offer is presented in extremely poor condition

Currently located in Craven Arms, Shropshire, the short-wheelbase car is described as “unrestored” and features smashed glass and has doors held on with bailer twine. An engine from a contemporary Land Rover is in the rear rather than the engine bay and accompanying documents confirm the car hasn’t been used since 1982.

The current owner, Tim Hughes, comments:

“There has been a large amount of interest in this vehicle. If you would like to discuss purchasing it, please get in touch by phone or eBay message initially. Following initial contact you will then receive a ‘buyers pack’ of information with copies of the documentation and additional photos I have. Viewing of the vehicle will be arranged in March 2016 by appointment at which time prospective purchasers will have the opportunity to examine the vehicle and original documents in detail and satisfy themselves as to its originality. A few days later a closed bid process will occur where all purchasers will be given due opportunity to bid with a clearly defined end date and time”.

    1. It may be iconic but it is not worth a fraction of £200k even in mint restored condition. It is not even complete let alone original, it doesn’t even have it’s original engine which is the real point of interest. Anyone who pays more than £5k for the chassis number and documentation, which is all this pile of corroded junk has to offer, is totally insane.
