1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II formerly owned by Prince Chula Chakrabongse of Siam for sale for just £55,000
Prince Chula Chakrabongse of Siam (1908 – 1963) – the “Little Prince” – was well known for his White Mouse Racing team in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. He spent much of his later life with his English wife, Elizabeth Hunter, in Cornwall and now with the sale of a 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II, a buyer will get a chance to purchase a car that he once owned.
Educated at Harrow and the author of a number of books about both racing and the Chakri dynasty, Prince Chula’s 1956 autobiography The Twain Have Met: An Eastern Prince Came West is said to give “a very human account of the impact of English school life on a lonely little boy brought up in a very different world”.
Priced at £55,000 and for sale through Kensington dealer Graeme Hunt, the long wheel base car features a retrimmed interior in dark hide, a division, air conditioning and a Webasto sunroof.
Prince Chula appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs with Roy Plomley in March 1960 soon after purchasing the Rolls-Royce. We’re sure that he’d have chosen it as his luxury. He died aged just 55 three years later after a battle with cancer.
