Palazzo di Amore: The most expensive property currently on the market in America
Whilst a “top ten” list last week chronicled the world’s most expensive homes and placed a value of £1 billion on Buckingham Palace, a billionaire looking for somewhere to park their money could get a relative bargain if they were to buy the Palazzo di Amore in California. It has just come to the market with a price of £123 million ($195 million).
Complete with an astonishing 53,000 square foot of accommodation, Palazzo di Amore (which is also more simply known as 9505 Lania Lane) is situated in Beverly Hills’ sought after 90210 postcode and is described as “a palace for the modern era” by its owner Jeff Greene.
Greene paid £22 million ($35 million) for the property in 2007 and then spent a further £15.8 million ($25 million) on renovations and extensions. The finished result comprises of 12 bedrooms and 23 bathrooms but what will either impress or astound are such features as a 5,000 square foot master bedroom suite and wine cellars with a capacity of 13,000 bottles. Outside, on Palazzo di Amore’s 25-acre plot, is a vineyard capable of producing 400 to 500 cases and a 128-foot “scenic reflecting pool” whilst in addition, other “bonuses” include a discotheque with DJ booth, a two-lane bowling alley and a theatre with seating for fifty guests.
Palm Beach based Jeff Greene married his wife Mei Sze Greene at “the palace of love” in 2007 and had the boxer Mike Tyson as his best man. He has since rented it for up to £300,000 per month ($475,000) and is said to have made his “fortune betting against sub-prime mortgages”. Of the property, which is for sale with Joyce Rey and Stacy Gottula, he told The Wall Street Journal:
“Honestly, I didn’t think it was going to be this much work… In hindsight, I never would have done this”.
