Knight Frank take an unusual tack to promote a property
Knight Frank is known as the estate agent to the rich and famous. Like other realty firms, of course, they pepper their brochures with superlatives such as “exemplary”, “spacious” and “glorious” but in the marketing of 33 Portland Place, they truly take the biscuit.
In the brochure for the sale of this mansion – which a self-styled ‘Lord’ named Edward Davenport acquired for just £50,000 from the government of Sierra Leone in 1996 – the selling agents focus on information about how the house was used for an Agent Provocateur photo shoot with Kate Moss in 2006 and the filming of The King’s Speech in 2010. They even include images of magazine covers titled “Knickers forever”.
The £25 to £30 million mansion needs considerable renovation work to restore it to its former glory. So, too, it seems, does Knight Frank’s PR department.
