Mind the Moat

Mind the Moat – Morley Old Hall, Morley St. Peter, Wymondham, Norfolk, NR18 9TT – £2.25 million ($2.8 million, €2.6 million or درهم10.3 million‎‎) – Strutt & Parker

Grade I listed moated Norfolk manor house put on the market for £750,000 less than it was promoted for in 2012

Illustration of the troubled state of the UK’s prime property market is provided in the form of Morley Old Hall in Norfolk. This Grade I listed manor was marketed for £2.65 million in 2009 and after being sold in 2010, was placed for sale for £3 million in 2012. It did not sell and after being launched to the market again for £2.4 million in June 2015, is now on offer again for £2.25 million ($2.8 million, €2.6 million or درهم10.3 million‎‎).

Purchased by a couple described as “irrepressible” by Country Life’s Penny Churchill in 2001, Morley Old Hall was subject to a £1 million renovation by Alison and Richard Warden. It was built in the 16th century, truly is an especially fine example of a moated Elizabethan house and stands in 32 acres of gardens, paddocks, woodland and a long, tree-lined drive.

Currently owned by a country letting specialist firm named Clarenco, the estate’s star feature is the main, three-storey manor house. It includes two grand Tudor reception rooms, a large kitchen, seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. In the grounds and set away from the hall itself are three holiday cottages, various outbuildings and stables.

Used as a location in The Only Way is Essex and a butler training school also in recent times, Morley Old Hall is now for sale through agents Strutt & Parker.
