The art of selling

A £30 million Mayfair apartment for an art lover that is being marketed by way of an extraordinarily detailed 69-page sales brochure

A 5,845 square foot penthouse in Mayfair’s Albermarle Street has been designed and is being marketed in a most unusual way. Alongside being presented to the market by way of an astonishing 69-page sales brochure, the apartment includes a 783 square foot private art gallery space and specially designed art storage. This is a property that has been designed with someone very specific in mind and is one that reflects how Mayfair has morphed into a contemporary art lover’s paradise.

The main feature of the apartment is this vast art gallery space

Situated with a development by David Phillips, chief executive of Glebe, the lateral apartment forms part of a Beaux Arts building that was at one time a showroom for Buick cars. It comes “fully dressed” and includes a library, a music room, a grand drawing room and an atelier room. There are also two kitchens, three bedroom suites and both a terrace and a winter garden.

    1. I actually prefer the artwork on the walls than the actually place itself. Not liking those high box like windows, the decor is bland but love the art work in the main living quarter. The exterior is very impressive though. Always wanted my own art gallery in-house..who says you can have too much money sometimes!!

    2. The managing Managing Director of Lendrum and Hartman – Buick agents for G B – who I thought operated from New Bond Street, lived in a large house at Luckington near Badminton in the thirties, forties and fifties.

During World War Two every impoverished aristo, within a forty mile radius of Luckington, appeared regularly at his table because he had food and drink in abundance, and his hospitality was legendry

For such events he kept a chap in his car park with a heraldic trumpet with its banner that he tooted – or whatever you do – to herald the arrivals of his aristocratic guests

He absolutely worshiped his wife, and would wait respectfully outside the lavatory, whilst she was within, sitting on a velvet covered chair

When he died; black bordered engraved invitations went out to all his aristocratic acquaintances with ‘ P.S the Duke is coming! ‘

This was one of the stories that Disco Dowager – Lady Edith Foxwell – told with great gusto to her hysterical audiences

As a widow; my beloved grandmother had one of these two and a half ton straight eight monsters, with the registration BBO 1

She told me that she bought it in Bond Street, but she was always prone to exaggeration…it’s a family fault

    3. 26 Albermarle is a perfect fit for a young contemporary art collector. Personally, I think it’s stunning and that terrace is jaw droppingly good. Love the atelier and drawing room and of course the art work (Sadie Coles). The architects have excelled on this project on planning of space etc..The 69 page brochure is a really smart way to sell it!! Lets hope the buyer is someone young, maybe English and will be in residence to appreciate it. After all to have one’s own art gallery at home, it doesn’t get better than that. To one lucky so and so…… if you have a party, can I please attend and also to critique your fabulous art collection!
