Despite a Málaga villa built by the musician Prince remaining on the market a year after it was put up for sale, bizarrely its asking price has been increased by £1 million
Aside from penning the dancer and actress Mayte García the song The Most Beautiful Girl in the World before he married her on Valentine’s Day in 1996, the singer-songwriter Prince also built a 12,400 square foot villa in El Paraiso, Málaga, Spain for his bride. That house was one of their many homes during their four-year union and now, after having been renovated by a subsequent owner, it is for sale for £4.9 million ($7.6 million or €6.95 million).
Launched for sale in April 2014 at the significantly lower figure of £3.9 million ($6 million or €5.5 million), the “completely renovated” villa stands on a 1.5-acre plot and includes 11 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. There is also a heated swimming pool with a Jacuzzi, a tennis court, garaging for three cars and a security system that reportedly “cost the singer half a million pounds”.
Prince and his wife’s time at the villa has been described as “simultaneously the happiest and the most miserable time of his life”. The couple’s son, Boy Gregory, passed away a week after he was born and the “the artist resolved never to set foot in the house again, haunted by the memories of his former life”. The couple divorced in 2000 and though García has remarked that she “thinks [she’s] now screwed for life because [her] first relationship was the most bizarre relationship ever”, she also told The Mirror: “I will always love [Prince]” in June 2015.
María Aranda is marketing the villa on behalf of the current owners. Contact her at marialaranda@gmail.com or +44 (0) 20 3287 2108 for more information.
