The last hurrah

Land Rover marks the end of an era with a series of special farewell edition Defender models

In October 2013, we lamented the passing of Land Rover’s Defender and now we share with readers the final models that will be offered to the British public before this 67-year old motoring icon is consigned to history this December.

Killed off by EU emission legislation, Land Rover have announced three special editions to “celebrate [the] life” of the Defender and has named them the ‘Defender Heritage Limited Edition’, the ‘Defender Adventure Limited Edition’ and the ‘Defender Autobiography Limited Edition’.

The ‘Defender Heritage Limited Edition’ features style elements inspired by the very first Land Rover
Features include Grasmere Green metallic paint with a special front grille and aluminium badge details

Just 80 of the ‘Autobiography’ station wagon models will be produced at a price of £61,485 whilst 600 ‘Adventure’ will be available as 90 or 110-inch wheelbase models for £43,945. A further 400 ‘Heritage’ editions are priced between £27,800 and £34,200.

The rather blinged up ‘Defender Adventure Limited Edition’ is more likely to end up owned by the likes of Wayne Rooney than Winston Churchill
Whilst equally, the ‘Defender Autobiography Limited Edition’ definitely will be more at home in Belgravia than Bodmin

Of the offering, most critics have tipped the ‘Heritage’ to be the model that enthusiasts will flock to. It includes the same ‘Grasmere Green’ paintwork used on the very first Land Rover built, a “heritage grille” and special graphics acknowledging the ‘HUE 166’ number plate used on that car.

With this last hurrah nearly upon us, Land Rover lovers should get in their orders quickly. Here, indeed, is the end of an institution.
