Bob Hoskins: A gent who passed before his time

 

Suffolk born actor Bob Hoskins started his career as a circus worker, fruit packer and camel herder but rose to become one of Britain’s best loved actors.

This twice-married 71-year old star, known for his roles in The Long Good Friday, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Nixon, announced his retirement in 2011 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

 

Humble to the end, Hoskins – who also starred in Ellen Perry’s 2011 film Will – once stated:

 

“A common misperception of me is that I am a tough guy. You don’t end up looking like me if you are a tough guy. I just have a big mouth with little to back it up”.

 

He was much more than that. Bob Hoskins, who sadly died today of pneumonia, will be remembered as a gentleman, superb performer and Hollywood great.
