Actors William Roache and Michael Le Vell in court on the same day
Soaps are meant to be more dramatic than reality. In the case of the nation’s longest running series, however, it’s the personal lives of the actors that have actually become more tawdry.
Though former Coronation Street actor Andrew Lancel was cleared of the abuse of a 15 year old boy in June, today two other well-known faces from “the cobbles” appeared at separate courts this morning.
“Street stalwart” William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, found himself at Preston Crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to charges of historic sex offences against five girls. Meanwhile, Michael Le Vell, who stars as Kevin Webster, appeared at the start of his trial at Manchester Crown Court facing seven charges of sexual activity with a child, six rapes and six counts of indecent assault between September 2002 and September 2010.
As they say: “The truth is indeed stranger than fiction”.
