Escaping the Dick

Escaping the Dick – Cressida Dick should take responsibility for escaped prisoner debacle – That an escaped prisoner couldn’t get himself rearrested in spite of willingly handing himself into the Met Police seven times is ludicrous; Cressida Dick should take responsibility and resign

That an escaped prisoner couldn’t get himself rearrested in spite of willingly handing himself into the Met Police seven times is ludicrous; Cressida Dick should take responsibility and resign

It’s long been known that Cressida Dick couldn’t police a pissup in a brewery. That she was appointed a dame in Theresa May’s resignation honours list was an utter joke in 2019, but that this woman whose role in the death of Jean Charles de Menezes in 2005 should have resulted in her being fired is now being called out after an escaped prisoner tried to hand himself in for arrest seven times is just further proof that this moronic woman should finally go.

Featured in the Guardian this morning, the case of Akram Uddin is nothing but astounding. Here was a man who had been jailed for firearms offences who had escaped from an open prison to see his mother and spent a month trying to hand himself in to officers, but here was someone whom also was repeatedly turned away.

Uddin’s lawyer, Liam Walker of Doughty Street chambers, yesterday told Maidstone crown court:

“This case, more than any other I have heard or have been involved with in my last two decades of practice, perhaps illustrates the extent of the managed decay of the criminal justice system.”

“It is utterly astonishing that, when Mr Uddin asked to be taken back into custody, he was refused. There is little more that an escaped prisoner can do than instruct his solicitor that he is going to a particular police station, attend that police station with a bag, say he has escaped from prison, give his full details and ask to be arrested and taken back.”

“To badly paraphrase Oscar Wilde: to pass up the opportunity to arrest an escaped prisoner once may be regarded as misfortune, to pass up that opportunity seven times is an utter shambles.”

Quite rightly the judge in the case, Charles Gratwicke, has demanded that the Met police conduct an inquiry and present its findings to the court within 28 day. Uddin, meanwhile, was told the judge “had no reason to doubt that he had made efforts to hand himself in” and was jailed for four months for absconding from prison.

Though Cressida Dick has yet to comment on the matter, it is quite apparent that the rot in the Met is not being dealt with from the top and thus today we join those calling for this hapless harridan to just go.

Two utterly useless women – Theresa, now Lady May, and Cressida, now Dame Cressida Dick.
