Britain’s political classes may not be the best, but America’s options just got far worse
In Britain, we rightly bemoan the lack of a credible political opposition in the wake of Jeremy Corbyn’s election as leader of the Labour Party but in America, the situation is far worse. With Donald Trump topping the polls as a likely Republican candidate to be president, others considering running include Lindsay Lohan and Kanye West. These three are frankly jokes but the most likely dead cert runner, Hillary Clinton, however, now joins the fray of those under attack despite having successfully dodged the bullet over Benghazi this week.

Featured in the Mail Online on Saturday, a new book titled The Clintons’ War on Women by Roger Stone and Robert Morrow makes a series of “sensational claims” about both Bill and Hillary Clinton and this, the newspaper claims, has led to further suggestions that “political allies [are] now beginning to question Hillary’s presidential suitability”. Amongst the allegations published is a suggestion that “she masterminded ruthless efforts to silence the long string of women who claimed they were seduced — and even sexually assaulted — [by her husband]” and that “Chelsea Clinton, now 35 and a mother, is not Bill’s daughter at all but the offspring of an affair between Hillary and her former law firm partner, Webster Hubbell [who was also subsequently jailed for fraud]”. President Clinton, himself, is singled out over his post-White House relationship with the convicted paedophile Jeffery Epstein and in summing up his wife’s character, Stone goes as far to argue: “People need to know the real Hillary. She’s not some smiling grandma. She’s a vicious, egomaniacal, extremely short-tempered witch”.
With candidates like these, all one can say is: “God help America”.
