Max Clifford refuses to apologise as it is revealed that he’s been borrowing against his assets
Sexual abuser Max Clifford’s only remarks since being convicted have been to say that he is “incredibly disappointed about what’s happened” and he’ll be “back to court on Friday”. When asked if he would be apologising to the women he’d indecently assaulted, he did not answer and simply smugly raised his eyebrows. Here is a man with no shame and no regret.
The disgraced publicist, it has also been revealed, may well be trying to protect his assets from both a likely divorce from his wife of four years and from the four women he was convicted of abusing. Five weeks before he went on trial, The Telegraph’s David Barrett and Padraic Flanagan reported yesterday, Clifford took out an “unexplained mortgage” of an “undisclosed sum” on his £3.5 million home in Hersham, Surrey with Barclay’s Bank.
The costs of Clifford’s defence are rumoured to have topped £250,000 but what he will especially fear now is not only jail but the prospect of civil suits for compensation and that his wife, Jo, visited the Rottweiler-like divorce lawyer Raymond Tooth in recent weeks.
Max Clifford is a man who has built a career based on lies, innuendo and the destruction of others. The damage he did to many has now come back to haunt him and as his world implodes, few will shed a tear. Mind out Max: There’s worse to come yet.
