Bill Oddie defends Rolf Harris
“Personalities” from the 1980s seem to like making odd statements about paedophilia and sexual abuse. First it was William Roache and then came Jim Davidson and Max Clifford. All three have since been arrested and more recently Jeremy Irons and now Bill Oddie have stuck their oars in too.
We make no suggestion that Irons or Oddie are involved in anything sinister but the wildlife presenter’s comments are unacceptable given that his friend Rolf Harris remains on bail in connection to allegations of historic sex offences. Oddie told an Australian television station:
“I just find this really, really sad… I find it really, really awful, because his wife is not well, hasn’t been for a long time. As if life isn’t tough enough really with all that sort of thing going on. Leave him alone”.
“He’s a jolly bloke… He would want his morning cuddle from the secretary and she’d be only too happy to give it him. It wasn’t molestation or anything like that”.
Our advice to Bill Oddie: Stick to birdwatching.
