Larger than life Camila Batmanghelidjh was born in Tehran and was once described as “Britain’s most colourful charity leader”. In 1996, Batmanghelidjh founded Kids Company to help vulnerable youngsters in inner cities, and upto August 2015 her work attracted the support of everyone from Jamie Cullum to Damien Hirst. She is severely dyslexic and was credited with having amazingly raised over £40 million for her organisation but the wheels fell off for Batmanghelidjh after her charity “ran out of money amid claims of financial mismanagement and a row over funding”. Her case provides another example of the failures of the hapless Charity Commission.
