Dr Hyacinth Morgan (1885 – 1956)

Dr Hyacinth Morgan

Dr Hyacinth MorganTwice a Labour Member of Parliament (1929 – 1931 and 1940 – 1955) and bizarrely sharing a Christian name with television’s Mrs Bucket, Dr Hyacinth Morgan was a doctor and Labour politician who was born in Grenada in the West Indies. His speeches in Parliament were notoriously short and he was renowned for making to the point remarks such as “The Hon. Member is entitled to give his opinion” and “They may also go in one’s favour”. Of eugenics, he once commented: “Some when inebriated see beetles… The eugenist, intoxicated, sees defectives”.
