Oxford educated actor, writer and co-creator of the comedy series Doll & Em Emily Mortimer is the daughter of the Rumpole of the Bailey creator Sir John Mortimer CBE, QC (1923 – 2009). Married to the actor Alessandro Nivola since 2003, Mortimer became an American citizen in 2010 for “cynical reasons” and “so that if anything happened to her husband she would not be hit by a 70% inheritance tax rate”. Her world is said to be full of phrases such as “fucking terrifying”, “making heavy weather of things” and “fruity old luvvies” and in a 2010 interview with The Guardian she bluntly asked: “Who fucking cares what serious intelligent people think about Posh Spice or Cheryl Cole?”
