Garage punk band singer and author of the 224-page Car Park Life Gareth E. Rees can officially be classified “the expert on Britain’s car parks.” His favourite is the one close to where he lives at Morrisons in Hastings, Sussex and amongst things he’s found in them whilst touring them are people dogging Stan Collymore-style and a dead body even. Of what he terms a study of an area of “psychogeography” and spaces that he bizarrely likens to botanical gardens, in November 2019, this father of two commented: “Racist attacks, road rage, homelessness, child grooming, gun crime, heat-absorbing tarmac, rain run-off. The heart of darkness is not at the end of an exotic river. It’s outside your supermarket.”
