The joining of two real estate and media dynasties came about in 2009 when Jared Kushner married Ivanka Trump. Harvard and New York University educated Kushner unexpectedly became the CEO of Kushner Companies after his father was jailed for tax evasion in 2005. He paid $10 million for The New York Observer in 2005 at the age of 25 and attempted and failed to buy the LA Dodgers in 2012 whilst his wife, the daughter of Donald and Ivana Trump, works with her father at The Trump Organization. Together the Upper East Side based couple have two children and are said to be worth in excess of $200 million. Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are strict observers of Shabbat and of it told the Jewish Insider: “From Friday to Saturday we don’t do anything but hang out with one another. We don’t make phone calls. It’s an amazing thing when you’re so connected to really sign off… Pure family”.
