“The Voice of Racing” was undoubtedly the most charming gent in England and was the first sports broadcaster to have been knighted. Sir Peter O’Sullevan possessed a pair of commentary binoculars from a German submarine and a room at The Sydney Arms in Chelsea is named in his honour. He often drove himself to Deauville in France on race days well into his 90s and he was also a dedicated fundraiser for horse related charities.
