An “improver” rather than a “creator”, Brooklyn born industrial designer Sara Little Turnbull believed “too many businesses designed products for the retailer rather than the customer”. Responsible for things as diverse as kitchenware that could be used either to freeze or heat food and thief-proof security locks, 4-foot 11-inch tall Little was remembered as being like a “bee on speed” by The Times and is listed on Wikipedia as having been more of a “why” than a “how” person. “Tiny Little” or “Little Sara” will be missed by many; her innovations will be missed by many more but one thing is for certain, due to her pioneering spirit: “The Little Woman” will never be forgotten.
