The Tout’s tips for The Open Championship 2013 at Muirfield

This year it is Muirfield’s sixteenth opportunity to host The Open Championship, which retains its status as the number one event in European golf. The course is legendary having been started in 1744 and it is where the first thirteen rules of golf were written.

Situated near Edinburgh on the east coast of Scotland the course is a fair one but the wind will be the biggest enemy of the players this week on the tight fairways and approaches to the greens. There is a famous bunker with a grass island by the last hole plus some other fearful and well positioned “pot” bunkers that will not be releasing wayward shots that easily.

Last year we struck gold when our selection, Ernie Els, won The Open and The Tout has several fancies this year. It is also wise to save your main wager until the final round but if you like some fancy options for an each way wager our selections are as follows. We leave out Tiger Woods as at 8/1 he offers no value.

Justin Rose (US Open winner 2013) at 20/1.

Phil Mickelson (winner of last week’s Scottish Open) at 20/1.

Ernie Els (winner in 2012) at 33/1.

– Ross Fisher (in form) at 66/1.

– And as the outsider at 250/1 but a talented links player and previous winner Darren Clarke.

Och Aye!
