Can the Power-Tizzard combo conquer in the Cotswold Chase on Cheltenham Festival Trials day?
Lately, the success of Colin Tizzard with such horses as Lostintranslation has been phenomenal and now, today, at the Cheltenham Trials day, he is a firm favourite in the Cotswold Chase.
Selected by Chris Cook (son of the late Labour politician Robin) in The Guardian as a “stand out… who travels strongly for a long way in his races,” Slate House will be ridden by Robbie Power and is also lauded by the Daily Mail’s Robin Goodfellow as “poised to make a serious impact.”

1.50pm Cheltenham (3 places, 10 horses) – Cobden-Nicholls combo My Way at 5/1 from 13/2 earlier (backed by Radio 4)
Racing Post says: “Respectable second, albeit no match for the progressive winner, in Ascot handicap (2m3f, heavy; cheekpieces added) five weeks ago; now 0-15 but a success wouldn’t be out of turn (placed ten times).”
2.25pm Cheltenham (2 places, 6 horses) – Power-Tizzard combo Slate House at 11/2 (selected by Guardian NAP, The Times NAP, Daily Mail)
Racing Post says: “Held up and travels strongly; officially a novice because he failed to win last term but he’s had eight runs over fences, winning on all three completions this season; latest was in 3m Grade 1 novice event at Kempton (soft) on Boxing Day; this will be more of a slog and there were rather mixed messages in a top 2m4f handicap here in November because he had a huge shout two out but fell there after several earlier awkward leaps.”
3.35pm Cheltenham(3 places, 8 horses) – If The Cap Fits at 5/2 (The Times NB)
Racing Post says: “All but one of his starts have been at up to 2m3f, the exception when winning a 3m Grade 1 at Aintree (good) last April in a thrilling three-way finish, despite bad last-flight blunder; looked better than ever with 2m3f Grade 2 win at Ascot (soft) on return; wore cheekpieces in both those; 3m on testing ground is something new but he has untapped potential as a stayer and is the most plausible danger to staying champion Paisley Park.”
