Unilever ludicrously forced to “urgently” recall Magnum ice cream because it contains MILK
‘Elf and safety enthusiasts are known for their pedantism, but news that Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco have put out “urgent recall notices” for Magnum White ice cream tubs “because they contain milk” is just laughable.
Reported this week in Kent Live and the Daily Express and shared online by the ‘Overheard in Waitrose’ (a store which incidentally isn’t affected by the recall) Facebook group, the “food safety fears” result from the product “not having the word milk written in English on the label.”
According to the Daily Express: “The company is urging customers not to eat the product and to contact them for details of how to return it” whilst Unilever themselves added: “Magnum is taking the precautionary measure of recalling a limited number of Magnum White ice cream (440ml) due to the potential undeclared presence of milk.”
Though milk averse individuals surely wouldn’t be eating ice cream –defined as “a sweetened frozen food made from dairy milk or cream” – in the first place, those of them who have actually been dumb enough to buy the 440ml tubs are “urgently advised” to call the Unilever ‘careline’ on 0800 146 252.
