The proof of vulgarity is in the pudding

The world’s most expensive and frankly most vulgar Christmas pudding

Christmas is meant to be about religion and families but with the announcement that the website VeryFirstTo is marketing a Christmas pudding for £23,500, we must say we were quite appalled.

Martin Chiffers aims to create the world’s most expensive Christmas pudding

Whilst the homeless suffer on the streets and struggle to find enough to eat, a chef named Martin Chiffers – formerly executive pastry chef at The Savoy – has created a pudding that is made with a bottle of Duret 1810 said to be worth £10,890. To this, Chiffers will add a “highly collectible” gold Henry VI Salut d’Or coin valued at £7,500 and a donation of £250 will be made by VeryFirstTo to The Prince’s Trust. On their website, the company neglect to mention that – even if these prices are correct – that they will make a profit of £4,860.

Vulgarity reigns plainly this season and though there is no doubt somebody ludicrously rich enough to purchase this “never done before” item, we’d hope nobody is stupid enough to go ahead and commission it. Anyone with pockets this deep, instead, could donate nearly 10% of the £299,600 Centrepoint needs to help the homeless this Christmas. Nobody would say “Bah! Humbug!” to that.
