An amusing artwork based on a conversation at a bar is to be offered at Christie’s in London in April
On the 14th April, Christie’s in South Kensington, London will auction an untitled work by an American artist, photographer and ‘rephotographer’ named Richard Prince (born 1949) at their ‘First Open’ sale. Offered from the collection of the late writer, art critic and Conceptual Art collector Enrico Pedrini of Genoa (1940 – 2012), it is quite simple and nothing but a signed ink on paper note.
It reads:
Two guys sitting at a bar: “If I have another drink”, the first said, “I’ll begin to feel it”.
The second confided: “If I have another drink, I won’t care who feels it”.
A guide price of £800 to £1,200 ($1,200 to $1,700 or €1,100 to €1,600) has been set for the work – which seems very reasonable given other artworks by Prince have sold for figures as high as £5.9 million ($8.45 million, €7.4 million).
On this occasion, prudes most certainly need not apply.
