Britain’s smallest £1 million home for sale

If you’re annoyed to have missed out on the one bedroomed flat on a one year lease that sold for £550,000 that we featured, we have another option for you as agents Wetherell are selling what they term “Britain’s smallest £1 million home”. Thankfully, it’s on a lease of 100 years.

Agents Wetherell suggest the compact flat would be "ideal for an adroit buyer who will perhaps view it as an alternative to a hotel suite"

Just 334 square foot in size, the buyer of a £950,000 apartment on the fourth floor of 42 Upper Brook Street in Mayfair will have to pay some £38,000 in Stamp Duty and a further £2,200 per year as an annual service charge.

Described as “dower flat” in reference to how it would have been used as by an aristocratic widow as her “town” residence after her husband’s death (alongside her “dower house” in the country), the pint sized studio features a living area with a drinks cabinet, a sleeping area “large enough to accommodate a double bed”, a separate fully fitted kitchen and a bathroom with walk-in shower. It was allegedly the home of the widow of the obstetrician and founder of the Royal College of Obstetricians Sir Francis Champneys in the 1920s.

Wetherell’s press release states that the price of the flat “equates to a cost of less than £792 per month, for each of the 1,200 months of the 100 year lease”: We’ll take two.
