He did just that when he and a 25-year old named Alex Hope persuaded investors to part with some £6 million but where he went wrong was that he failed to realise that fraud is wrong. A self declared “property investment expert” and part of the dodgy Inside Track “get-rich-quick” “property investment information company” in the early 2000s, Shastri pleaded guilty to making false representations to investors and promoting a collective investment scheme without authorisation in January 2015. Never has the adage “caveat emptor” been truer.

I remember him from Sally Farmiloe’s parties. Always smoking a cigar, always in a shiny suit, always in an ageing Bentley. Would I have invested with him? It was always going to be a big fat NO from me and now I know the truth I am glad I wasn’t taken in.
Given his love of cigars, I am surprised he didn’t call himself Raj Ashtray!!!!!!!
He looks like he would make a good friend for Thomas McLoughlin. Birds of a feather and all that.
They are all rogue traders, Thomas McLoughlin was not a successful crook, he was hopeless and incompetent. Who has ever become stinking rich from honesty and integrity? Perhaps Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope. But that was the magic of the movies.
