John Goodman takes a break from house arrest on a £21,000 weekend getaway
Those under house arrest don’t normally get to jet away by private plane for a weekend away but then again, John Goodman’s far from a normal example of someone awaiting a retrial.
The billionaire polo patron and Palm Beach resident, whose 2012 conviction for the DUI manslaughter of a student named Scott Wilson was quashed because of the “strange actions” of one juror, had special reason to travel. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office gave approval as Goodman’s mother is dying of cancer in Houston, Texas and has just days or weeks to left.
Unlike most in his situation, however, Goodman also got special approval for his request to travel by private plane on the condition that he picked up the tab for the four-day escapade. The bill for this has now been revealed to have been approximately £21,000. A breakdown, revealed in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, included:
- £18,889 chartering a plane
- £1,084 on hotel rooms
- £522 on car hire
- £488 on meals
We’re sure Scott Wilson’s family will be delighted to hear of this extravagance. How indeed the other half live.
