The results of the European elections do not bode well for the future of British politics
The results are in and with the declarations of the results of the European elections, the clear winners are such parties as Nigel Farage’s UKIP and Marine Le Pen’s National Front. With this cataclysmic change in the political landscape, reason appears to have been thrown out with the bathwater.
Our contributor Mr Gus Instinct was criticised by a section of our readers for commenting on this worrying trend on Saturday, but again here, today, we back his view up. We as a title do not mourn the trashing of the hopeless Liberal Democrats in Britain or the damage to the Conservatives and Labour, but what we do feel is that the nation should be far from “over the moon” at this result.
For us, though UKIP gained 27% of the vote in the European elections, this does not make it what Farage has called “the people’s army”. The majority of British law making is still controlled from Westminster and UKIP, in having not one Member of Parliament, lacks any real influence there. Even the Green Party has one.
Britain, we reiterate, needs leadership and such parties as UKIP will not provide it. It is time for the real political mainstream to get a grip.

I have bagged the bargain of 2014 at Tesco Superstores. The Carry on “Ultimate collection” all 30 fantastic Carry on film titles at a steal for £20. I suggest Gus Instinct get his ass down to a Tesco Store.
Well said Matthew. I agree with you entirely. UKIP is not in the mainstream and with no MP’s, it is just a protest vote. Of course I accept the result and agree about the EU being bad for Britain, but voting for Farage and his swivel eyed loons won’t change anything. We need, as you say, for the Conservatives to pull their asses into gear. We need Boris Johnson as PM.
Dear Reginald…you are silly old buffer! Boris Johnson is a Europhile. For goodness sake, get with the programme!
Think………… Boris/Lorraine as PM!?………….Shoot me now, please!
You ARE a slow reader……..!!!…….16 days to comment?!…………..Cut to the chase, Chase………! “Leader”? HA! HA! HA!, I don’t think so !
Almost ANYBODY (With the exception of B/L….!) would be preferable to the inept dunderheads in power at the moment.
