Making a King

The Tout’s take on the King George VI at Kempton Park

Do the great chasers know it’s Christmas? Boxing Day at Kempton Park is the perfect finale to part one of the festive season and we get to enjoy one of the great spectacles of the year, the William Hill King George VI Steeplechase. Pre the Cheltenham Festival this is the main mid-season challenge for the big guns and this year is no exception.

The rain gauge is not as full as it was in November so with the drying winds of the past week the ground will come into play but the ground will still be almost good so it is only the real soft ground specialists that can be discounted.

The Tout wishes you all a joy filled holiday season and suggests a small each way wager on Wishful Thinking with Barry Geraghty on board. It is a very competitive race but the price of 25/1 could be a big present from our beloved friends the bookies.

Happy betting.

    1. It would be Wishful Thinking if he got anywhere near this bunch. Silviniaco Conti stands out as he is the class of the race. Not sure what happened at Wetherby, but he put that run behind him at Haydock. Dynaste is a very decent horse but not sure he can turn the tables with Silviniaco, Cue card was beaten by Dynaste so it is looking like Silviniaco Conti all the way for me. I have gone through all of the form and I am not sure about Champagne Fever stepping up in trip and whether he is experienced or indeed good enough against this bunch either. He has won at The festival and only beaten a head there too so he has tenacity but can he stay, will he jump, this is all unknown territory, but he has a superb trainer and jockey to make up for what he lacks. Winning a 2m 4 in heavy last time still might not be good enough here.
