A wooden Ferrari is the only car allowed in Venice
Weighing 2,000 pounds, a wooden model of a Ferrari F50 is the only “car” allowed in Venice.
Powered by a Yamaha boat engine, the whittled pine vehicle is the creation of a craftsman named Livio De Marchi and took five months to build in 2001. De Marchi has also built a Jaguar, a VW Beetle, a Mercedes and a pumpkin carriage out of wood and recently donated them all to the San Diego Air & Space Museum.
Our Picture of the Week shows the Ferrari in Venice and of his experiences, De Marchi comments:
“I thought Venice would be like it was a hundred or two-hundred years ago when there weren’t any motorboats and you could travel along in a beautiful, peaceful way… But, paddling along in my little boat, I got out on the Grand Canal and all of a sudden up came the waves and the motorboats”.
“I said to my little son, who was with me, we’ve got to go back because this Grand Canal has turned into a freeway”.

Possibly the least welcome intrusion into the New Year is the repetitive drivel of ‘Gillian Trott’. Does this unbalanced ‘woman’ actually exist? Methinks ‘she’ could be part of a fiendish plot by our sainted editor, invented so as to attract, Pavlovian-like, postings from readers who are rightly exasperated with ‘Trott’s’ puerile inanities.
Happy New Year Glenmore. I can assure you I do not have the time to have created the 159 comments received from Gillian Trott thus far. I am told by those who are suspicious of the McCanns that there are many forums that such people inhabit and repeatedly “troll” those who question that story. Gillian is supposedly one of them and now she’s decided that The Steeple Times is worthy of her attentions too. She doesn’t have much to say and has been repeatedly warned that her time here will come to an end if she continues with the same repetitive nonsense.
